October Newsletter.

Please accept my apologies about the total radio silence throughout the summer holidays. This is partly due to some technical difficulties we have had with our IT system, but mainly contributed to by how busy we are during the summer months.

The monthly parents newsletter will start back up today without fail and new photo's will be posted to the website on a regular basis. There has been some delay in doing so due to the new GDPR laws that have recently come in and us ensuring we have the correct permission slips from as many people as possible. We fully understand how much parents enjoy seeing updated photographs of their children on the website but we have to be 100% sure that we are obliging by the new data law which came into effect earlier this year.

Despite being busy/hectic the summer months passed like a flash and were great fun at Crocus Fields. Two residential holidays took place, we celebrated Crocus Fest Part Two where huge numbers of you turned out and we all basked in what must surely have been the hottest summer since time began!

We would like to apologise to anyone who had care rescheduled due to a unforeseen circumstance at Crocus Fields. We believe that everyone who was affected has had the care replaced or scheduled in throughout the next few months. I encourage anyone who thinks their care has not been replaced to get in touch with us to look into it.

You will see as of tomorrow a new slide show of photographs on the website which I will endeavour to update regularly.

Crocus Fest 2019

I would like to thank everyone that came and helped make Crocus Fest such a success. When we first threw the party last year we hoped it would enable parents to meet each other as well as a wide range of the team. This year's event was attended by a huge number of parents, young people, siblings, grandparents, cousins, friends and staff members.

From "hook-a-duck" to tombolla's, cake stalls to sensory sessions, and a seemingly never ending BBQ, a great time was had by all.

The staff and young people had a wonderful time during the event and we hope that you did too.

If anyone has any feedback on Crocus Fest, whether you thought it was great, or you felt we could have improved it, please don't hesitate to let us know. We are really keen to hold a number of family events throughout the year open to all.

So far in 2018 we have had a family morning at the cinema, a family day at Nottingham forest and now Crocus Fest part two.

If you have any ideas on how we can continue this trend please let us know!

Afternoon (Mid-Morning) Tea

On that note........tomorrow we shall be hosting our very first afternoon tea!

This is in order to raise a few pounds towards a sensory garden for the unit which we hope to have completed at some point next year. The event starts at 11:30 am and everyone is welcome. Feel free to bring friends, relatives etc and it is another chance for you to meet the whole team and show your family a bit of Crocus Fields.

It costs £5 per person and all the money will go directly into the Crocus Fields Children's Fund. If you have any questions on the event do not hesitate to get in touch with us.

Big It Up Awards

A huge congratulations must go out to Christopher, Christopher and Jasmin who both scooped up Big It Up Awards in September. The annual awards from the council celebrate the achievements of young people across the city. Our three award winners this year very much looked the part at the awards dinner and dressed in their best to impress.

Compared by Dino and Pete from Capital FM, the young people and their families were entertained by some outstanding live singers and mind-blowingly incredible dancers. It was a wonderful evening and a massive thank you must go out to service manager Sharon Clarke for helping to facilitate this again and for allowing Crocus to take part.

Jasmin broke all Crocus Fields records by being awarded two awards at the event. The very first person to have done so! Congratulations to the three young people for winning the awards and for their impeccable behaviour throughout the ceremony. And finally thank you to the staff team for nominating them for this.

Parents Group

Our next parents group is scheduled for Wednesday 10th October at 10.00 am at Crocus Fields and as always will be led by Lucy Hall.

Please feel free to come along. This has been a very successful group that meet regularly to discuss whatever they wish to discuss. Often we have set agenda's for discussion and invite speakers to talk to the group. Other meeting times are set a side to allow you to take control of the conversation.

There is no obligation to talk if you do not immediately feel comfortable doing so. The parents who attend have all fed back that they found the group useful. It would be lovely to see you there.
