Assistant Unit Manager
I am pretty new to the Crocus Fields family! I started in August 2017 as Assistant Unit Manager. I have worked with children and young people in various different settings over the last 10 years. I completed a degree in Childhood, Education and Culture at the University of Leeds, during which time I got the opportunity to work at the Walt Disney World Resort in Florida (love it there!). After uni (from 2010-2012) I worked as a youth activity counsellor at a Ski resort in France and for Disney Cruise Line. Since leaving Disney I have worked in residential childcare with children and young people with learning difficulties, as well as challenging behaviours. I also have a Masters degree in Applied Child Psychology (Nottingham Trent).
I love working at Crocus Fields, as it gives me the chance to work with so many amazing, and inspiring kids. I have loved getting to know everyone so far, and I really enjoy building positive relationships with all of the children and young people who come to Crocus Fields. I want to help make sure all of our children and young people have different and amazing experiences. And most importantly, lots of fun! In my role I try to help ensure Crocus Fields runs as smoothly as possible, and so that we are always striving to improve our service and make sure everyone continues to love coming here!
I was born in Nottingham, and lived here until I left for university in Leeds when I was 18 (in 2007). I lived in Leeds for 3 years, and have since lived and worked in both France and Florida. I studied briefly at The University of Sichuan in China, whilst completing my Masters degree in Applied Child Psychology at Nottingham Trent. I have been back living in Nottingham for the last 5 years (just can’t stay away!).
I love sports, and am a season ticket holder at Nottingham Forest (shocking I know). I also support Orlando City, in Major League Soccer as well as the Pittsburgh Steelers in the NFL. In my spare time I enjoy playing golf, video games and spending time with my friends and family. I’m not ashamed to admit, I’m a bit of a Star Wars and Marvel fan (huge understatement…).
People like this about me:
I am very friendly, laid back and a little bit cheeky (only sometimes though…). I love to have a laugh and a joke with everybody, and just generally have fun. We can always kick back and relax as well. I am always ready for action, and ready to do whatever the kids want to do!
I love to go out and have fun with the children and young people I work with, I love doing activities like swimming, laser quest, going to the cinema, bowling and so on.
People say I am easy to talk to, and am trustworthy. A young person once told me ‘Dan, you’ve just got one of those faces’. Still not entirely sure what that means!
